This past year Compassionate Ocean celebrated its 25th anniversary. Throughout this special year of celebration our community held a number of events to honor the path that brought us here and the path that continues to unfold. As we collectively close the chapter on the first quarter century of Compassionate Ocean and look forward to the future, we hope you will join in supporting the overall wellbeing of our Center by donating to the year-end appeal, making a pledge of support as a sustaining member, or offering your time as a volunteer for any of the myriad upcoming projects just waiting for our time and attention.
With deep bows,
- The Board of Directors

Compassionate Ocean Zen Center is dedicated to the central practice of awakening for the benefit of all. The activities of the Center cultivate awareness of the essential beauty and dignity of life coming from full engagement with life-as-it-is.

Compassionate Ocean Zen Center is named after Jikai Dainin Katagiri Roshi, the root teacher of Joen and Michael Genpo O’Neal. Jikai (Compassionate Ocean) refers to reality itself, which always holds us and bathes us with compassion. Even in times of great suffering, we are held in the great ocean of Buddha’s compassion.

The Center offers programs in Zen practice and study. We also offer the nationally-acclaimed Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program quarterly.
